Company Offers Contest to Change Name

“Moms Who Golf” inviting customers to submit ideas to re-name the company.

Milford, Connecticut - October 12, 2008 With the economy struggling, here is one idea that may help holiday shopping. MomsWhoGolf.com is changing its name and is willing to offer a $1,000 spending spree for a great new name. Ideas submitted receive an immediate 30% discount on all purchases.

“The public is invited to submit ideas now,” said Scott Pierson, the founder and President of MomsWhoGolf.com.” He said, “the name, MomsWhoGolf, does not connect with all of our patrons. We thought we had a name that reflected our target but we learned it wasn't the only target. Real moms (who golf) love our name and remember it, but non-moms (who may or may not golf and make up the majority of our business) do not feel connected. Also, surprisingly, men make up about 40% of our current customers. And most of them don’t feel too tightly connected to the name either,” he joked.

“So we’re looking for a great new name to reflect our audience of women and men and are willing to offer some great incentives for it,” he said. "We’d much rather put this to a vote among our customers and targeted base than hire an outside company."

“This comes at a time when people could use a creative incentive, Pierson said. Ideas are being accepted now through December 8, 2009 at http://www.momswhogolf.com/newname where additional details can be found.

The “small print” according to Pierson is that they will decide on a name on a subjective basis from entries they receive on their web site using a polling system called Zoomerang. Once the ideas are submitted, the company will reserve the appropriate domain names prior to announcing the new name and the winner sometime in January, 2009.

Pierson continued, “We don’t expect much traffic on this incentive so I’d say your odds are pretty good for a great idea! The idea is intended as a way to kick-start the new company name and get people talking about us in a sluggish economy. We want it to be a great win-win story!”

Some facts about the business that people should know before submitting ideas: 60% of current customers are women, 40% are men (many are golf pros). Customers are asking for golf products for men and categories in addition to golf. One key corporate goal is to build a community of resources for newcomers to golf. “Golf remains one of the most difficult sports to learn as an adult but there are best-practices to know and we will provide those resources,” he said. 36% of revenue comes from non-golfing gift shoppers buying gifts for golfers. In closing he said, “Personally, I’d like a name that reflects the power of women and men who manage busy lives, careers and family while fitting in a few rounds.”

ABOUT Moms Who Golf> Moms Who Golf is a two year old e-commerce company and one of the newest online companies in the niche market of women golfers. Women are the fastest-growing segment of the golf market. “Golf is no longer a man’s sport,” said Pierson. Today, women account for approximately one-quarter of adult golfers in the U.S.—an estimated 5.8 million female golfers. The women's golf market has become a $1 billion worldwide business.

Women golfers come to golf older than men but stay with the sport longer according to the National Golf Foundation. The average age of women golfers is 45, while the average age of men is 44. The median age of avid women golfers is 56. Thirty-seven percent of women golfers are fifty or older, compared to 32% for men.

Moms Who Golf features hundreds of hard-to-find golf items at terrific prices," said Pierson. Some of most popular golf products are golf sandals by Sandbagger, golf skorts and other apparel by Green Tee Apparel, golf-themed Christmas cards and holiday cards, golf rule and etiquette books, instruction videos, golf accessories from Ame & Lulu and other golf themed items like glassware, prints and frames, golf jewelry and golf gloves and visors from GloveIt.
